Meet the Catering Chef
Chef Ian Culver began his culinary career as a teenager, working as a banquet server. At 18, he transitioned to the back of the house, where his passion for cooking truly took root. After realizing that college wasn’t the right fit, he chose to pursue formal culinary training at Johnson & Wales University. Following culinary school, Ian spent a year honing his craft in Maui before moving to the Boston area, where he worked under several esteemed chefs. His journey eventually led him to Blue Ginger, the celebrated restaurant owned by Iron Chef Ming Tsai, where he further refined his skills. Ian later relocated to South Carolina, where he found a professional home at Coastal Carolina University (CCU). Today, he leads a team of seven exceptionally talented chefs. What sets his team apart is their collective experience—each member has, at some point, held a role similar to Ian’s. This depth of expertise allows them to tackle a wide range of culinary challenges and create diverse, high-quality dishes. Their collaborative spirit and problem-solving abilities make them a formidable force in the kitchen.
